Mighty Oaks from little acorns grow; in 1972 Geoff Simmonds purchased a single tipper vehicle to service local quarries in Telford.

From tipper vehicles the company purchased tractor units, curtain sided trailers and rigid vehicles enabling the growth and development for the new businesses in Telford.

In the early 1990’s Jeremy Wilson joined the family business. He bought a wealth of knowledge and experience in the logistical field with him, which helped shape the company you see today.

In 2001 Simmonds Transport saw demand for a pallet network to service its customers within Telford so joined a Pallet Network. Palletline went live at Simmonds in 2001 and enabled Simmonds to progress with the strategy of becoming a Third Party Logistics (3PL) provider.

In 2008 the decision was taken by the board to relocate to the purpose built premises at Stafford Park. This gave high bay warehousing, a new transport yard and also space for the pallet network to grow and thrive.

Acquiring BRC accreditation meant warehouse levels were at capacity and the pallet network were exceeding all forecasted volumes.

The pallet network operation was moved to High Ercall with the addition of a further 150,000 sq ft non BRC  warehousing.

Accreditations such as the Soil Association, FORS Gold, and Earned Recognition enabled further growth and steady increases in work volume.

In November 2023 the remaining Simmonds family members and partner Jeremy Wilson decided it was time to step aside and sold their shares in the business.

100% of the shares have been acquired by John Wassell the current Transport Director, Paul Dodd the current Director of Palletline Operations, Bart Walkerdine the new CEO with his partners in Alternative Equity and William Stobart and Son. We are incredibly proud to have Ed Stobart the CEO of WS Group join the board and to be advised by the wise sage of all things logistics William Stobart himself.

The tie in with the Stobart family gives the new management team fantastic industry knowledge and experience along with the best asset buying power in the UK.

The tie in with WS also enables us to provide access to the  best in UK HIAB and flatbed fleet and a huge UK wide portfolio of warehousing and general haulage options. This enables our customers to get best pricing, the very best service and all with one point of contact at Simmonds who provide their best in Europe Service Wrap.

The previous owners may have left, but have and will never be forgotten, they leave behind a well-established ethos.

“Stand together, fall together and never leave a man in the field.”

This message epitomizes our core values, and team oriented spirit which creates the very highest level of customer service.

The Simmonds and Wilson partnership knew that a business’s cannot grow without good people. This falls in line with the new owner’s philosophy to always promote from within wherever possible, so as the old owners left,  the gaps were filled from promotions within the business ensuring continuity for customers and growth opportunities for existing staff.

The future looks great for Simmonds Transport staff, owners, customers and suppliers alike.
